What if you were given a diagnosis that was not only negligent, but it also changed the course of your life forever?

Not What You See is the memoir of my journey through postnatal PTSD. In my early 20s, the cause of my infertility was wrongly diagnosed, the prescribed medications for which sent me spiraling into a deep, dark depression that lasted over five years.

A chance meeting with an old friend was the turning point where the misdiagnosis was exposed. It would be 15 years before I fell pregnant with twins, only to have the mid-pregnancy ultrasound reveal that one of my babies had died. Hope was all I had that I would, one day, hold my surviving twin in my arms. This is my story of hope, loss, joy, grief and postnatal PTSD, and of my journey through healing, all told through the lens of autism.

Not What You See concludes with an important message about mental well-being and self-awareness – having a proactive approach to self-care when healing from a traumatic experience. Based on my lived experiences, observations and insights, this book is a helpful guide for those who have experienced physical and emotional trauma in their journey towards parenthood.
